SEVA's
Agricultural Development Initiatives
SEVA from the very beginning is dedicated to the development of agriculture, with a special focus on promoting organic farming.
Through Vikas Kendra, the North 24 Parganas wing of SEVA, the organization has emphasized planning, training, and technological development to encourage farmers to adopt sustainable agricultural practices. SEVA has initiated various agricultural programs, including Kitchen Gardens, Relay Cropping, Mixed Cropping, Organic Markets, Health Gardens with Medicinal Plants, and Jute cultivation particularly Organic Jute. In the years 2022-23 and 2023-24, SEVA collaborated with Ganges, Gloster, and Birla Jute Mills to work on the Organic Jute project collectivizing internationally registered 1,300 organic farmers.
These initiatives aim to improve farmers' livelihoods, promote environmental sustainability, and ensure the long-term health of the ecosystem. By providing training and support, SEVA empowers farmers to move towards organic farming, enhancing both productivity and sustainability in the region along with formation of Baduria Vikas Farmers Producers Company as well as running one Paddy Procurement Centre to ensure that the farmers are not deprived of Minimum Support Price provided by Government.
